An audit engagement provides the highest level of assurance and includes a formal report expressing the CPA’s opinion as to whether the statements are free from material misstatements. A review is substantially narrower in scope than an audit, and the CPA provides “limited assurance” on the accuracy of the financial statements. A compilation provides no level of assurance on the accuracy of the statements, but can be helpful for business owners under the right circumstances.
