Paul Mashburn, CPA, is President of Mashburn CPA and has advised construction companies since 2003. He works primarily with commercial contractors, helping them build financial and operational systems that improve job costing, strengthen reporting, and identify where they are most profitable.

Paul advises owners through the full lifecycle of their businesses. In addition to tax and accounting matters, he helps clients improve profitability, develop better internal reporting, and navigate major transitions. His experience includes advising on sales to other construction companies, transactions involving private-equity-backed buyers, management and employee transitions, and family succession.

He has served as treasurer on the boards of nonprofit schools and arts organizations and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the North Carolina Association of Certified Public Accountants, and the Construction Financial Management Association.

Chris Duncan, CPA, works with Mashburn CPA in the firm’s tax practice, providing tax return review and technical support. He has more than 20 years of public accounting experience at the national, regional, and local firm level.

Chris works with businesses, individuals, and nonprofit organizations on tax planning and compliance matters. He also has substantial experience with state tax compliance and planning issues, as well as advising clients involved in business sales and acquisitions.

He attended The Citadel, where he played tennis.

Karen Waits brings more than 20 years of experience in accounting, tax, payroll, and business operations. She works with clients across a wide range of needs, including tax preparation, bookkeeping, payroll, payroll tax compliance, and QuickBooks consulting.

Her background includes 13 years in public accounting and 11 years in government contracting, where she managed financial processes, payroll, compliance, and internal operations. She has significant experience with multi-state payroll and tax compliance and helps clients maintain organized, reliable financial systems and improve day-to-day processes.

Karen holds a degree in Accounting, along with micro-credentials in Human Resources and Business Administration.

Susan Wolfe Wait supports the firm in both bookkeeping and administrative operations. She helps maintain organized financial records, supports day-to-day internal processes, and plays an important role in keeping client and firm operations running smoothly.

Before joining Mashburn CPA in 2022, Susan’s background included work in account coordination and business administration. She brings a practical, detail-oriented approach to bookkeeping and internal support, helping the firm stay organized and responsive.

Susan holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Management from the University of North Carolina Asheville.
